Madden NFL Mobile released on August 26th, 2014. I joined the team on the tail end of last years game right after we finished NCAA Football 14. I put away my Producer hat and put my Development Director hat back on. We had a creative shake-up at the beginning of the year and so we decided to try a different approach to the game. From a project management stand-point, I had to change the way we approached things. I was moving from a yearly iterative title to one that was going to be run more like a service. We stayed in two-week long development sprints the whole year, even when we went to a bug-fix mode and our Finaling period was one of the best I’ve ever been on. We had only one week where we worked late hours. From a feature stand-point, I think the game is a very compelling mobile game. Our aim was to deliver short experiences. This was done with playing a drive against random opponents or friends; Live Events, small challenges for card pack rewards; and Seasons, short 1 – 2 minute quarter games against the real NFL opponents. There’s three major improvements that I’m excited about. The first one is Defensive Strategy. This allows you to pick plays that your team has a chance to counter while someone is playing you in head-to-head. This brings a level of strategy to our head-to-head mode. Next, is Live Events that are going to be tied into games of the week. For example, expect limited time Live Events to show up during a Thursday night game with exclusive content you can only get during that game. This is great because I think a great use case for our game is sitting on the couch playing during the commercials or half-time. The final major improvement, was released in our first title update: Leagues. We’ve only scratched the surface with this feature. It will allow you to band together with 32 of your friends or strangers to play head-to-head. You also get “profit sharing” where you get some coins each time your league mates purchase something. Overall, Madden NFL Mobile is a great little game.

BOOM! Dominate your friends in intense head-to-head shootouts. This is MADDEN NFL like you’ve never seen it on mobile.
